Changu Changu Moto
We introduced the fuel-efficient cookstove in Africa to communities in Malawi to provide a safer and more sustainable alternative to the three-stone fire. They are known locally as the Changu Changu Moto (Fast Fast Fire).
So far, we have helped communities construct over 40,000 Changu Changu Moto cookstoves. This has resulted in 80,000 fewer bundles of firewood being needed every week, reducing household wood use by 67%.

People use our offsets for various purposes including for the Australian Climate Active certification, the United Nations Climate Neutral Now initiative, the Paris Climate Change Agreement and to meet net-zero commitments. You can offset your emissions too by exploring our offset options.
Our cookstove project is registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The CDM is operated and administered by the United Nations. We have applied the rigorous CDM Standard which means that the stoves are regularly monitored, independently audited and verified. The offsets we sell are then issued by the UN. These offsets are called Certified Emission Reductions or CERs. When you buy our offsets, we'll provide a certificate from the UN to certify your offsets have been cancelled for you (go here for more info). Our project is also registered under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).
Beneficiary Stories
I used to collect firewood three times a week but I now only need to go once. This means I have been able to open my grocery shop for more hours so I have more customers and can earn more money.
On the traditional three stone fire I would spend about 4,000MK a week on firewood. Now I only spend 1,400MK. With the money that I am saving, I have been able to rent some farmland so that I can grow groundnuts and maize to sell.
I love my cookstove as it saves my granddaughter time because she doesn't go to collect firewood as frequently.
I love that my grandma has a Changu Changu Moto. I am seven years old and have epilepsy. I fell in to a traditional three stone fire when I had a fit. I now have burns over my body.
